Kathryn's talk will focus on a series of case studies from the past few years where honesty and transparency has made or broken some major brands online. Kathryn will discuss the importance of risk assessments and unambiguous marketing language to arm companies to participate actively in the online landscape. A focus on youth demographics and important online communities will round out this hour-long presentation on the importance of honesty online.

Bios

MIKE KUJAWSKI

Mike Kujawski is a passionate consultant, trainer and speaker, on the topic of strategic marketing and digital engagement. His specific niche and personal mission is to help governments, non-profits and associations excel in the modern social media landscape through careful, strategic planning. In 2005, Mike helped launch the Centre of Excellence for Public Sector Marketing (CEPSM.ca), where he currently leads a team of strategists responsible for major digital client initiatives in Canada and abroad.

Mike’s recent consulting clients include the Office of the Auditor General, Canada Health Infoway, Baycrest, the Government of Tanzania, Ontario 211, the Canadian Department of National Defence and the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority.

Over and above his consulting work, Mike is a distinguished international speaker, engaging blogger and highly sought out trainer in his field. He created Canada’s first national workshop and comprehensive workbook on how to develop a social media engagement strategy in a public sector setting. He has trained public servants and non-profit workers in numerous countries spanning across 4 continents.

Mike is frequently quoted by the media and has been invited to speak at hundreds of public sector and non-profit conferences, panels and events around the globe. His speaking topics include new marketing, modern communications, social media, government 2.0 and the importance of developing a strategy before executing tactics. He has been asked to provide strategic digital engagement advice to central government agencies in Canada such as the Treasury Board Secretariat, the Privy Council Office and the Senate.

In addition to his work with CEPSM clients, Mike is part of the faculty of the Professional Certificate in Public Sector Marketing Program at Carleton University and occasionally lectures at Ottawa University in the B.Com program. 
 

KATHRYN SLATER

Since 2008, Kathryn Slater has headed up the interactive division at DSA Media. Her keen interest in new and emerging media trends and technology make her a rich resource when it comes to research, planning and buying in online media. Kathryn has provided online media planning for a significant number of DSA’s clients over the past decade.

Kathryn enjoys presenting, and her gregarious nature has led to several teaching engagements. She teaches an introduction to online media class and has toured the country to present best practices for online buying and planning, occasionally pairing up with David Stanger at universities and colleges across Canada, Kathryn has had the opportunity over the years to work with a diverse set of clients, advertisers and publishers.

Kathryn worked at DSA Media for four years as a traditional buyer/planner prior to taking on the role of interactive/new media specialist in 2007. She has experience planning for both large and small accounts. Since entering the field, Kathryn has been dedicated to transparency and honesty in advertising. She believes that the best campaigns are the ones where clients, publishers and agencies work together for the best customer experience rather than the best "campaign" experience. 
 

Adam Green

Adam Green is Agency Lead with Google Canada where he is responsible for developing strategic partnerships with advertising agencies and their clients across Canada. His role is multifaceted, but focuses on negotiating deals that apply to a whole agency or holding company, building capability within agencies and acting as an operational escalation point.  He also teaches courses in business analysis and data visualization to other Googlers and clients.  

Prior to joining Google, Adam worked as a management consultant with KPMG's Operations Improvement Advisory Practice where he focused on cost reduction, project management and process improvement.  He has also worked as an entrepreneur and engineer in the renewable energy sector and in sales and marketing strategy in consumer electronics. Adam holds a B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from Queen's University. He lives in Toronto and is an avid skier, white water kayaker, rock climber and photographer.
